BaRupOn LLC is looking for an experienced Director of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs to lead the regulatory strategy, licensing execution, and compliance for its Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and Micro Modular Reactor (MMR) programs. This senior leadership position is vital for ensuring the safe, compliant, and timely deployment of next-generation nuclear technologies in the United States. BaRupOn

The Director will be responsible for overseeing all NRC licensing activities for the SMR and MMR programs, including the development and submission of design certifications, Combined License Applications (COLs), and license amendments. The role involves preparing and submitting essential regulatory documentation such as Safety Analysis Reports (SAR/FSAR), environmental reports, and responses to NRC inquiries. Direct engagement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is central to this role, where the Director will be BaRupOn’s primary liaison for all regulatory matters.

The position also requires ensuring that BaRupOn’s programs comply with U.S. nuclear regulations, including 10 CFR Parts 50, 52, and the emerging Part 53 frameworks for advanced reactors. The Director will monitor regulatory developments, assess their impacts on the company, and provide timely guidance to senior leadership on necessary actions. This role involves managing regulatory compliance, maintaining the company’s regulatory compliance matrix, and addressing all license conditions, technical specifications, and reporting obligations.

The Director will work closely with the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO), and the engineering teams to integrate regulatory requirements into reactor designs, safety analyses, and operational procedures. The Director will also align licensing milestones with program schedules to ensure smooth coordination across teams.

Externally, the Director will represent BaRupOn at industry working groups, regulatory forums, and technical conferences. Building relationships with NRC leadership, Department of Energy (DOE) officials, and other key stakeholders will be critical in shaping favorable regulatory frameworks for SMR/MMR deployment.

The Director will lead a high-performing regulatory and licensing team, overseeing external consultants and legal counsel as needed. Ensuring the team’s efficiency and supporting high-quality regulatory submissions will be essential for the success of BaRupOn’s nuclear programs.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with 10–15 years of experience in nuclear licensing and regulatory affairs. Direct experience engaging with the NRC is a must. Strong knowledge of U.S. nuclear regulatory frameworks, including advanced reactor licensing approaches, is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer (PE) license, NRC Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator License, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, and active membership in nuclear professional organizations like the American Nuclear Society (ANS).
